Drawing Tutorials

"Awesome tutorial"

submission: Drawing Tutorials

This reminds me of a cartoon-drawing class I took many many years ago.

Very good work. My favorite section was about eyes. The emotions were very obvious. Which is a fairly mandatory aspect of cartooning.

:D

How 2 Pleasure an Elephan

"Aww man"

date: May 2, 2008

I wanted to like this movie sooo bad. It was cheeky and cute. Right on down to using 'elephant' font for the word elephant. Awesome.

BUT!

The buttons do not work correctly. I don't know if you've turned this in yet, but you should really fix it, bud. Click on scene one... It goes from scene one and then skips to four (I think).

So yeah. There are some problems. Only the fourth button works properly if I remember correctly.

I like it man. Good work.

A great tutorial on special effects!

I especially like the way you handle lightning and explosions.

Bravo!

Animation Tutorial 1

"I liked..."

I liked the animation of the ball. And the simplicity of your stick figure.

But what honestly stole the show was your beautiful menu and your witty commentary.

+1!

How To Animate Walking

"Solid"

I like your style.

It's not for me, but I like it all the same. I wish some of the animation was smoother, but it was a great tutorial for newbies like me.

Thank you :)

I have some experience with drawing "triangle people" as one of my favorite drawing books refers to them as. Animating really is just a step above sketching. Thank you so much for this tutorial. I really learned a lot from it.

If I ever produce anything worth uploading to the web I will surely mention your name in the credits.

Also- you chose a great model. Action like that is always daunting to beginners as well as interesting to look at.

The only criticism I have of the flash was the ugly font you used for the writing. That's all.

Cheers.

Like this game, I suggest checking out Plasma Pong.

The website has been taken offline due to atari being a bully, but you can still download the game here:

"Cool!"

Very neat- looks like a fun project.

I do, however, have a big suggestion for you.

*Use standard buttons* for your keyboard controls.

WASD is where it's at, bud!

You shouldn't need to toggle strafe. Anybody who plays any FPS knows that you strafe more often than you turn. Use WASD for strafing/forward and back and the arrow keys for turning and looking up/down.

Maybe a little less newbie friendly, but it's a lot more comfortable for someone who plays FPS already (You're replacing their mouse w/ the arrow keys).

Maybe give control scheme options? What you have now and the one I suggested would be good built-ins and you could allow custom layouts via menu or text file too!

Plus, if you make it easy to pan up and down, you can add a dimensional aspect to your baddies... i.e., make fliers or really short opponents to force aiming.

Wolfenstein was fine, don't get me wrong- but there are better ways to do things nowadays!

Keep of the good work.

>_<

I'm jealous.

Author's Response:

Yeah! Thats a good idea! I was cracking my head to see if there was any way to control the cursors position (to make a mouse-look + wasd game) but flash's security policies dont allow it.. =\
I wanted an oldschool-wolfenstein-doom feel. But still, im planning on adding "jump" and "look" controls

thanks for the review

Maplestory: Yakuza

"Interesting comment-"

submission: Maplestory: Yakuza
date: April 11, 2008

I wasn't a huge fan of the game- that's a lot of controls to keep straight especially if you have no Maple experience.

But: This flash did get me to go d/l the maple client and try it out.

Two days later I have a level 11 magician and a level 14 magician (Stat re-roll, mostly).

So, If you catch any flak from the folks over at maple, I'll vouch for the fact that this game actually increased their player base!
